Today in Math we did Fractions and we learnt how to convert them into Percentage and Decimals. We also simplified the fractions into Equivalent fractions. We played a game where you had to simplify the fractions and it really got me thinking about the fractions and checking over twice about my choice. We also got to learn how to see if a number is divisible by any number, by adding them. This really helped me because then I can work out my Equivalent fractions 5x quicker.

My concern about tests is mostly when the teachers just randomly bring it up one day because I might not be ready and also the test will be in my record. So that’s my biggest concern because sometimes I might not be ready for the test and I prefer time to study (even though the test isn’t big).

Yesterday in Maths, we did perimeter and division. In the perimeter lesson, we learnt how to work out the area around an irregular shape. We had to work out what all the sizes were and then add them. I learnt that, I should always make sure I added all the sizes correctly and not leave any sides out. In the division lesson, we did short division and we learnt how to turn the “remainders” into decimals. I learnt a lot from the division lesson because now I can turn my remainders into decimals easily.

For the past few days,we have been learning about the X,Y Axis with our students teachers and we talked about the two different type of grids. The Alpha-numeric grid, where there are numbers and letters together, and then Numeric grid. Where it’s only just numbers together. We did activities on the grids and what we did was, we had to find the coordinates and place them in the right spot. Then we had to connect them and they made an image. I learnt how to place the coordinates in the right spot and connect the dots in order or the image will be wrong.

Today we did orienteering with our whole class. We had 4 teams and I was team 2. We had to write down clues for the other teams and and they had to find the treasure using the coordinates that we give them and using the map. We learnt that we should ALWAYS put down the CORRECT coordinates or else the other team will get everything all wrong and messed up. This activity will help us in life, because we are learning to use out XY Axis in real life just in case something goes wrong and we get lost, we can always tell the person who’s coming to help us our last coordinate.

For maths this term, we are focusing on graphs and collecting data. We are learning different ways to collect data in different situation. There are many ways to collet data for each topic. You can survey people or you can ask for information. The differenc between a survey and asking a question is that, a survey, you can get a answer while having some information, but when you’re asking a question, you are collecting information about the topic. There are many different graphs. For example: bar graph, line graph, pie graph..ect. You can put them in many different ways. The graph will help you compare the information you have collected and make statements about it.

For math this week, we are learning about Mode, Mean, Range and Median. Usually you would use these in a list of numbers. ‘Mode’ means the most common number or the number that appears the most. ‘Mean’ means the Average. To work out the average, you have to add your list of numbers and then divide it by the amount of numbers that you added. ‘Range’ is a value of sertain numbers between this number and that number. To work out the Range, you subtract the the lowest number in the list from the highest number in the list. ‘Median’ is the middle number. To work out the Median, you put your list of numbers in order from smallest to highest. Then you look at the number in the middle of the list. That is your Median. If there are more then one Median, then add up the two numbers and divide it by two.

Three things I learnt today about subtraction is:
- Always remember your ‘carries’
- Check your answers by adding
- When you are doing ‘missing numbers’, always make sure your calculations are correct

Today in maths, I worked with Mr. Carr in a small group. We have to choose 3 cities in America, Asia and Europe. We have to calculate all the flights and the routes. We also have to keep track of time and remember all the money you spent. You have to go visit 4 landmarks in each city and you have to stay at each city for at least 3 days. What I think that will be difficult for me is, figuring out the flights and making sure I use my time correctly so that I get back home on the correct day. This project will help me to understand how to work out problems like these. It will help me later on in life when I need to use it.
Tuesday 13th August 2013
We have been learning about timetables and how they work. We learnt how to read a bus timetable and how long it would take us to get to one place to another. We learnt that most of the time, the bus ride and back is the same amount of time. I am still doing the maths project with Mr. Carr and today, we had to figure out how much $AUD is in $HKD, $EURO and $USD.
Tuesday 20th August 2013
Today, I worked with Mr. Carr and we worked on the maths project. Today we had to start booking our plane tickets and writing them down. We had to go onto the plane’s website and search up your tickets and choose the one you want. I booked my plane tickets for from Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City, I also booked my tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Hong Kong. We have three weeks to finish the rest of the project and hand it up. While booking the tickets, I found out that its not complicated but you have more then just one choice because it gives you more then one answer.
Tuesday 8th October 2013
This term we are focusing on Prime Numbers, Compisite Numbers, Factors, Multiples and Squrimes. Sqrimes is a number that is made up of square numbers and primes numbers. It can not have any zero and the starting and ending digit has to be a prime or a square number. A prime number is a number that can only be divided by 1 or itself. For example; 73 is a prime number because it can be only divided by 1 or itself.

This morning in maths, we revised decimals and their place value. We did a work sheet to help us remember decimals and their place value. We also played a game online with both classes and it was football but related. I found todays maths session really simple and easy but fun (:
Today in maths, we learnt how to add fractions with a whole number. When you multipy a fraction with a whole number, your answer will decrease. Well it depends. Then we played an online game where we have to plan a park according to the intruscrtions. This helps up to convert our fractions into decimals and percentages. 🙂
Thurday 14th November 2013
This week for maths, we are learning/revising angles. We learnt how to figure the angles of a shape or inside of a shape. I learnt how to use an contractor and that a triangle is 180 degrees. An acute angle is less then 90 degrees but more then 0 degrees. An obtuse angle is more then 90 degrees but less 180 degrees. a reflex angle is more then 180 degrees but less then 360 degrees. Revolution is an angle that is exactly 360 degrees. A right angle is also exactly 90 degrees.
Friday 15th November 2013
Today in maths, we played a game called ‘The Hose’. It taught us about angles and how to water plants. It also taught us how to meausre angles. It shows us how to estimate which angle is which. I would recommend this to 1/2’s because its sooooooooooooooooo easy.
